OLCHS Students Excel On Advanced Placement Scholar Tests

Despite the challenges of a second, pandemic school year, Oak Lawn Community High School Advanced Placement students continue to excel.

OAK LAWN, IL — Despite the challenges of a second school year disrupted by the pandemic, Oak Lawn Community High School Advanced Placement students continue to excel. During 2021 AP testing, 24 OLCHS students scored 33 perfect scores on AP tests.

Oak Lawn Spartans earned additional recognition for high scores on multiple tests, known as AP Scholars, which recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction

Nine students were named AP Scholars with Distinction, which is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams, including:

Yusra M. Abdelrahman, Laura K. Blachowicz, Margaret K. Hennessy, Emma S. McGrath, Alyssa J. Mora, Michael C. Mueller, Sofia Serna, Mateusz Szlembarski, and James A. Walsh.

AP Scholar with Honor

Eleven additional students earned AP Scholar with Honor awards, signifying that they received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams:

“We are so proud of the collective effort of both our AP students and their teachers,” OLCHS assistant principal Dr. Lauren May said in a news release. “AP classes offer our students tremendous opportunities to become college and career ready,” OLCHS assistant principal Dr. Lauren May said in a news release.

Oak Lawn Community High School offers more than 20 different AP level courses which allow students a collegiate-level experience as well the opportunity to earn college credit. In all, 362 students took 756 AP exams last Spring.
