'One More For Sully:' Register Online For The Last Sully Shuffle

OAK LAWN, IL — Online registration is now open for the 11th, and possibly the last, Sully Shuffle 5K Run and 3K Walk, which takes place Sunday, September 25. The 5K/3K starts and ends at Oak Lawn Community High School, 9400 Southwest Highway. The Sully Shuffle raises money for the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

Sully’s Shuffle honors the 41-year legacy and memory of Skip Sullivan, a lifelong Oak Lawn resident and beloved teacher, coach and mentor at Oak Lawn Community High School. Throughout his time at OLCHS, Sully served as the assistant girls and boys basketball, football, golf and head varsity baseball coach. He fought valiantly against Parkinson's disease for 20 years when died this past November.

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support received in the days, weeks and months after Sully’s passing – including the naming of the OLCHS baseball fieldin his memory – it’s obvious his positive attitude and eternal optimism continues to inspire many. Sully’s family is hosting one final shuffle in his honor.

Sully’s Shuffle offers a mini-shuffle on the OLCHS track for kids ages 2 through 10, and a 5K run and 3K walk for anyone older than ten years old, and a post-party at The Homestead Barr, 9306 S. Central Ave. (93rd Street and Central Avenue. Packet pickup is Sept. 24 at The Homestead.

Schedule of events, Sept. 24, 2022:

• Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m., (south tennis courts on Austin Avenue at OLCHS)
• Mini-shuffle for kids, ages 2 through 10, on the OLCHS track
• 5K Fun Runs starts 9 a.m. on Austin Avenue
• 1K walk starts on Austin Avenue 9:02 a.m.
• Post party at The Homestead Barr (93rd Street and Central Avenue) 1 p.m.

Proceeds from this year’s Sully Shuffle will go toward funding a scholarship in Skip Sullivan’s name to be awarded to an OLCHS senior who emulates Sully’s positive attitude throughout their four years of high school, as well continuing to support the Midwest Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. Since 2009, the Sully Shuffle has raised $231,000 to fund Parkinson’s disease research.
