Oak Lawn, IL (June 19, 2015) -- An Oak Lawn man currently out on parole on a 2013 public indecency charge is back in custody after he was observed by police allegedly pleasuring himself near a children’s center.

Village Manager Larry Deetjen confirmed that Daniel Vorberg was arrested Thursday morning near 53rd Court and 95th Street by Oak Lawn police.

Vorberg was charged Friday afternoon with felony public indecency with 500 feet of a school by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

“Once again, great police work by Oak Lawn,” Deetjen said.

An Oak Lawn tactical officer observed Vorberg parking his car behind a medical office at the corner of 95th Street and 53rd Court, in view of the play area behind Papoose Children’s Center, Deetjen said.

The detective continued to watch Vorberg walking between the medical office and Oak Lawn Library before returning to his vehicle. The convicted fondler was observed with what appeared to be a bottle of lotion, which he applied to his hands, according to the charges.

Vorberg also reportedly had a magazine and what appeared to be a paper towel. Detectives then observed Vorberg allegedly moving his arm in an up-and-down motion consistent with masturbation.

Vorberg was convicted last year of public indecency when parents saw him pleasuring himself in vehicle parked near some children playing in Mt. Greenwood in April 2013. The father was able to take a photo of license plate on Vorberg’s BMW as he fled the scene.

He was taken into custody on the latest charge and a search warrant was obtained for his vehicle. Oak Lawn police contacted Vorberg’s parole officer and a warrant will also be sought for the parole violation.

According to Illinois Department of Corrections records, Vorberg is out on parole. His last sentence is not due to be discharged until October 2015.

“Thank God, for our Oak Lawn Police Department’s fantastic work,” Mayor Sandra Bury said.

Vorberg is due in bond court at the George Leighton Criminal Courts Building at 26th Street and California on Saturday.

Chicago Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said he was notified by a friend in suburban law enforcement of Vorberg’s arrest on Thursday. O’Shea was present for most of Vorberg’s trial last year.

Vorberg was handed a three-year sentence after he was convicted by a jury for public indecency in June 2014.

“I’m anxiously awaiting what happens in bond court on Saturday,” the alderman said. “I’m happy to hear that he’s back in custody and off the street.”
