Annual heavy metal music festival Chicago Open Air kicked off Friday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.
Friday night’s headliner, 1970s mega-rock band KISS put an end to day one after performances by other big names such as Rob Zombie and Megadeth. The 67-year-old founder Gene Simmons showed that he can still breathe fire and spit blood with the best of them. Original KISS member Paul Stanley, 65, flew into the crowd during “Psycho Circus.” Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer ably filled the roles of Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, on lead guitar and drums, respectively.
Saturday’s music lineup featured over a dozen artists, including Korn, Godsmack, and Seether.
