Respect Week at Richards

Bulldogs campaign to include, respect all!

Each year, schools across Illinois celebrate Respect Week. This celebration is derived from the Spread the Word Campaign that originally worked to promote the end of using derogatory terms to describe people with disabilities.

This campaign now focuses on inclusion for people with disabilities. In Illinois, we celebrate Respect for All – no matter the disability, gender, race, etc. – each year to promote respect.

At Richards High School, our main goal is for the school to become more involved in our Special Olympics initiatives and creating and inclusive opportunities for our athletes.

"We are letting the Garden of Respect bloom today. As part of Respect Week, our POWER students sponsored a table for students and staff during lunch to write out what respect means to them," said activities facilitator Debbie Swanson.
