Richards grad to host 8th annual One Skate

Benefit to support summer camp for kids in cancer treatment

Richards High School graduate Jordan Moeller returns to host his eighth annual fund raiser for Children’s Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI) on Saturday, May 4. In its first seven years “One Skate at a Time” has raised more than $70,000.

Southwest Ice Arena, which has donated its facility for the event, will host the fund raiser from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children age 5 and younger.

SIA is located at 5505 W. 127th Street in Crestwood. The U.S. Figure Skating Association and the Northern Ice Skating Club have sanctioned this event.

The event will directly support One Step at a Time, the camp for children in treatment for cancer sponsored by COSI.

One Step at a Time allows young cancer patients to spend time with one another. Camp provides access not only to fun, but to a place where patients can relax with others who know the road they’ve traveled.

The fund raiser will help make the camps more affordable for families.

Moeller, who won the U.S. Figure Skating Intermediate Men's national championship as a Richards student, now trains in Colorado Springs and has been a member of Team USA at the senior level. He will bring a host of friends to the event including:

• Courtney Hicks, 2011 U.S. Junior Ladies champion and 2014 Olympic alternate;

• Jimmy Ma, a Team USA member who competed on the Grand Prix circuit.

• Ryan Bedard and Isabelle Martins, 2016 U.S Juvenile Pairs Champions, 2017 U.S Intermediate Pairs Bronze Medalists, and 2018 U.S National Competitors,
