Check Presented To Fallen CPD Officers' Families
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation presented a check for $60,000 to CPD Officers Gary and Marmolejo's families.

CHICAGO, IL -- The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation delivered a $60,000 to the families of Chicago Police Officers Conrad Gary and Eduardo Marmolejo, who were fatally hit by train as they pursued a shooting suspect. The memorial foundation honors the memories of fallen heroes and provides financial assistant to the families of police officers killed or catastrophic injury.
Philip J. Kline, executive director of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, visited the homes of Gary and Marmolejo to offer his condolences to their families, on behalf of the foundation and all its supporters. Kline also presented a check for $60,000 to each family to help them with expenses in the near-term and to ease the burden of their loss. In the future, financial support for the Gary and Marmolejo Families will be ongoing, including educational assistance provided to their children from the present through post-graduate levels.
“There are dangers inherent in this job that goes well beyond the threat posed by armed offenders. These aren't the first officers who were killed by trains while doing their jobs. Officers are in harm’s way all the time,” Cline said in a news release. “Whether they are in their squad cars, walking a beat, surveilling drug activity from train tracks, protecting our shores or airports, officers are directly in harm’s way every day.

“These two officers placed themselves in harm’s way because that's what we want them to be doing on our behalf,” Cline added. “These officers and Officer [Samuel] Jimenez were young, enthusiastic police officers. They were the best of this young generation of officers.”
