Coronavirus By The Numbers: Additional Deaths In South Suburbs

South suburbs see daily surge in coronavirus deaths as of April 18. Find your town.

SOUTH SUBURBAN COOK, IL — The following numbers represent new coronvirus cases reported to the Cook County Department of Public Health by mandatory reporters, such as hospitals, public safety officials and health care providers. Data can be found on the CCDPH surveillance map, which does NOT include patients who recovered at home after showing COVID-19 symptoms, but weren't tested.

Park Forest leads with south suburbs with 207 cases, followed by Calumet City with 188, and 171 cases in Oak Lawn.

Across Illinois, reported COVID-19 cases topped 29,160 and 1,259 deaths as of April 18. In Cook County, the death toll rose to 904 with additional coronavirus deaths recorded by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The Cook County Department of Public Health reported 7,701 confirmed cases of coronavirus in suburban Cook County, with 305 deaths. Coronavirus has now spread to 96 communal settings, including nursing homes, long-term care facilities and jails.
