Seat Belt Citations Down By Half During OL Police Labor Day Campaign
Oak Lawn police wrote 104 seat belt citations, with 55 occurring during nighttime hours, down from the record-setting 328 from Memorial Day.
OAK LAWN, IL – Seat belt citations issued during the Oak Lawn Police Department’s Labor Day seat belt enforcement campaign were considerably down from the record-setting 328 from the Memorial Day campaign.
Officers wrote 104 seat belt citations, with 55 occurring during nighttime hours during the enforcement period. Other citations and arrests included, one arrest for driving with a suspended driver’s license and citations for disobeying a traffic control device, expired registration, and no insurance.
“Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped to make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving – ‘It’s Not a Game,’” said Sgt. Nick Kumke, of the Oak Lawn Police Department.

Oak Lawn police collaborated with other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” campaign.
This effort was part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
