Spartan Bowlers Headed To O'Fallon, IL, For Weekend IHSA State Finals
Total team effort helps Oak Lawn Community High School boys bowling qualify for IHSA state finals.

OAK LAWN, IL — Three weeks ago, it was Charlie Dell helping the Oak Lawn Community High School boys bowling team win the South Suburban Conference Red Championship.
Two weeks ago, it was senior Sam Bergamo leading the way to the title at the Illinois High School Association Regional meet. This past weekend, it was sophomore Justin Canvin providing the power at the IHSA Boys Bowling Sectional meet and helping the Spartans advance to this weekend’s IHSA State Finals for the first time since 2015.
Each week it’s a new hero and more team accomplishments. Next up is the ultimate challenge at state. The boys leave Thursday to head down to O’Fallon, Ill., and the competition starts Friday on the lanes.

“The boys bowled great and have done this as a true team—nobody is bigger than the team,” OLCHS head coach Kevin Walery said. “We have eight guys who are all in this together. Sam, Gavin Rybicki, and Jake Canvin were all huge in the sectional as well. Coach Lauren Mueller and I are so proud and happy for this team, and we cannot wait for the State Finals this week.”
