Sports Photo Gallery: Grizzlies Growl Into Dark of the Night
After leading by as much as 7-0 and 9-2, the Oak Lawn Grizzlies had to hold on to top the Berwyn Thunder in an 11-under baseball shootout that was stopped short by darkness.
In a Northern Illinois Metro League 11-under baseball game that was shortened because of darkness, the Oak Lawn Grizzlies outlasted the Berwyn Thunder 15-11 at St. Xavier University.
Frankie Alvarado pitched two scoreless innings to start the game and also went 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs. Ben Lynch went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Lynch's RBI double in the first opened the scoring for Oak Lawn.
The Grizzlies built leads of 7-0 and 9-2, but three different relief pitchers combined to issue 10 walks, and Berwyn rallied to tie it at 9-9 in the top of the sixth. Oak Lawn answered back with six runs in the bottom of the sixth, and the game was called with two outs in the top of the seventh due to darkness.

The Grizzlies are in their second year of travel ball after having combined players from the West Side and East Side (Oak Lawn Baseball) and recruiting others to fill their roster from Evergreen Park, Burbank and Marrionette Park.
