State Cross Country Meet Will Be Southland Strong
Saturday's boys and girls championships in Peoria are stocked with high school standouts from our region.
The Southland will be well represented at Saturday’s state cross country championships at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
The boys team qualified for state by finishing fourth in this past Saturday’s Class 3A Lockport Sectional. (The top five teams at each sectional advance to state.)
The top individual Southland finishers were ’s Dan Caddigan and ’s Eric Lindelsee, who both finished in a time of 16:16 to claim fifth place and qualify for state. (The top seven individual finishers not on a qualifying team advance to state.)

At the Class 3A Quincy Sectional, finished fourth to advance to state. Individually, ’s Mike Keller (15:31) finished second, Lincoln-Way East’s Tom Rotondi (15:54) finished third and s Cahron Cross (16:02) took sixth.
At the Class 2A Nazareth Sectional, ’s Brandon Ivins (16:25.61) finished second, ’s Brandon Ceh (16:28.57) finished third, ’s Noah Brim (16:44.50) took fifth and Evergreen Park’s Anthony Briante (16:55.45) finished seventh to qualify for state.

GIRLS STATE QUALIFIERS
On the girls side, finished fourth and Lincoln-Way Central finished fifth in the Class 3A Quincy Sectional to qualify for state. Individually, ’s Dena Waldier (19:06) finished fifth and Andrew’s Tiana Karopolous (19:13) took seventh to qualify.
In the Class 3A Lockport Sectional, Sandburg barely missed qualifying for state as a team with a sixth-place finish. Individually, ’s Maggie O’Loughlin (18:49) finished third, Marist’s Moira McDermott (19:30) finished fifth, and ’s Margaret Hurley (19:24) finished sixth.
In the Class 2A Normal Community West Sectional, ’s Natalie Waters (17:49) finished third.
In the Class 1A Lisle Sectional, ’s Julie Kamp (20:14) finished third.
