Superior Ambulance, Advocate Christ Offer Career-Ready EMT Course

High school graduates, military veterans encouraged to apply for emergency medical technician training with opportunities for advancement.

Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Services is teaming up with Advocate Christ Emergency Medical Services Academy in offering a 10-week emergency medical technician-basic course designed to help students enter the emergency medical care field.

The course is ideal for recent high school graduates for whom four-year college is not an option but desire training for a challenging and meaningful career.

Superior Air-Ground Ambulance Services is the largest private ambulance services company in the Midwest. Advocate Christ EMS Academy trains more than 2,500 emergency medical technicians, paramedics and nurses specializing in emergency care.

The course begins on June 22. Students will meet three days a week in the classroom, and spend two days riding in an ambulance where they will receive personalized instruction from crews experienced in trauma and critical care.

After completing the 10-week course, students will be prepared to successfully complete the National Registry EMT-Basic Cognitive Exam and become a licensed Emergency Medical Technician-Basic.

Training takes place at the Advocate Christ EMS Academy at 5220 W. 105th St., Oak Lawn. Students will be paid for time spent riding with an ambulance crew.

Superior will pay the entire cost of the program and course materials. Students are required to put down a deposit of $300. If students stay employed with Superior for one year after completing the course, they will be reimbursed $600.

Flexible scheduling is available. Superior is now offering part-time schedules as long as students/employees agree to work an every-Saturday schedule.

Superior has been providing emergency medical services since 1959 and is a family-owned company. There are over 1,800 Superior employees in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.

The company has approximately 15 area stations that EMTs work from, including Elmhurst, Oak Lawn, Markham, Schaumburg, Elgin, Batavia , Vernon Hills and others.

EMTs start at $11 per hour, with incentives to earn up to $14 per hour. Overtime is also available.

Superior also offers tuition reimbursement where EMTs can advance to paramedic, management or nursing positions.

Health, dental, life, and vision insurance plans and other employee benefits start the first of the month after 60 days of employment at Superior. A 401k retirement plan is also available.
