Sward Students Raise Over $22,300 for AHA's Kids Heart Challenge

Students at District 123's Sward Elementary School recently participated in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge.

Students at Sward School recently participated in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge, an annual fundraising effort to support physical and mental well-being, raising over $22,300.

During a kick-off assembly, Sward School Physical Education teachers Ms. Schiestel and Mr. Fahey introduced the importance of learning about heart health, body wellness, mental well-being and CPR skills. The Kids Heart Challenge is a fun way for families to help raise funds for a good cause while discovering the importance of maintaining a healthy heart.

"The Kids Heart Challenge prepares kids for success by supporting their physical and mental well-being," according to the AHA website.

Sward School has been participating in the Kids Heart Challenge since 2004. The top 10 fundraisers in K-2 and 3-5 earned Pizza with the PE Teachers. Fourth graders Everly and Nayeli, two of the top fundraisers, said that their favorite activity to work on during PE was the jump ropes and trampolines.

The annual event not only encourages physical activity but also teaches children the importance of taking care of their hearts while raising funds for the American Heart Association.
