Sweet Toothed ID Thief Nabbed Eating Stolen Twix Bar: Cops

After spending $699 using his new phony Kohl's credit card, he was nabbed eating a Twix bar he had stolen from the store, police said.

BURBANK, IL -- A Chicago man who had just committed identity theft was stopped from leaving the Burbank Kohl’s when he was caught eating a candy bar that he had stolen from the store, prosecutors said. James Roscoe, 44, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of identity theft. Roscoe was arrested on the day his parole was to have been terminated on a drug charge.

According to the charges, on Jan. 16, Roscoe went to Kohl’s at 7608 W. LaCrosse Ave, in Burbank, where he filled out a credit card application using an altered driver’s license. Roscoe allegedly presented a driver’s license, which had his picture but the other person’s information. Roscoe was approved for a credit card with a $1,000 limit. He allegedly went shopping in the store, charging $699 worth of store merchandise on his new Kohl’s credit card. The prosecutor said Roscoe was stopped from leaving the store when he was caught eating a Twix bar that he stole from the store.

“I didn’t know they sold candy there,” Felice said.

“But they’re repetitive in nature,” Felice said. “Do we keep rewarding people who commit the same crimes?”

“The real loss here is a Twix bar,” the assistant public defender said.

The judge set bail at $150,000. Roscoe is due back in court Jan. 31 in Bridgeview.
