Oak Lawn, IL, May 10, 2016 -- Since he was a wee lad skating at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena, and later, training as a teen at Crestwood’s Southwest Ice Arena, Jordan Moeller demonstrated early on his talent and athleticism in the sport of figure skating.

Now, Moeller, who grew up in Oak Lawn and graduated from Richards High School, is bringing back a cadre of national and international skaters from Team USA’s figure skating team for his fifth annual benefit for Children’s Oncology Services, Inc.

COSI, based in Chicago, operates 11 different One Step Programs providing camp experiences and other programs for children with cancer.

“I actually found out about COSI through my high school algebra teacher, Deb Swanson, at Richards,” Moeller said. “She had a niece who had cancer and was able to attend the camp.”

In the last four shows that Moeller has hosted at Southwest Ice Arena, he and Team USA figure skaters have raised over $33,000 for COSI.

All of the skaters are donating their time and talents for this worthy cause. The show features individual skaters, pairs and synchro teams, including two-time U.S. champion and 2010 Grand Prix champion Alissa Czisny; the 2013 U.S. junior silver medalist Mariah Bell, and senior level U.S. women’s figure skater Courtney Hicks.

Moeller trains about nine hours a day, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and will skate a few hours a day on the weekend. Presently he is recovering from a broken leg he suffered in December. He’s had two surgeries but it is making his way back on to the ice. Moeller will be skating on Saturday, but isn’t allowed to jump yet.

A solo men’s skater, Moeller is working toward earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic men’s figure skating team.

Tickets to “One Skate At a Time” will be sold at the door. Adults are $20; children ages 6-12, $12; and kids under five are free. Southwest Ice Arena is located at 5505 127th S.t, Crestwood.
