'Three-Pointers' Earn OLCHS Maeve Hassett All-Conference Honors
Oak Lawn Community High School varsity basketball Maeve Hassett earns All-South Suburban Conference Red honors.

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn Community High School’s Maeve Hassett has had a junior year to remember. After working her way into becoming the starting setter on the varsity volleyball team this fall, she continued to rise to the occasion on the basketball court this winter. She played so well for the Spartans that it recently earned her All-South Suburban Conference Red honors.
It was her continued improvement and progression in shooting three-pointers that really made the difference. Not only did she set the single-game record for 3-pointers this season, but she finished the year with an impressive 58 of them to lead the team.
In the Illinois High School Association Regional semifinal last week, Hassett hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter and helped the Spartans jump out to a 20-5 lead over Reavis. Oak Lawn went on to beat the Rams and advance to the championship game.

“Maeve turned herself into one of our best three-point shooters as the season progressed and started hitting shots at a pretty impressive clip,” OLCHS head coach Mark Sevedge said. “She shot an impressive 40-percent from beyond the arc and got us going early in an impressive first-round victory over Reavis.
In the regional final, she hit two more threes, but the Spartans fell short against a tough Whitney Young team.
