The Chicago man was discovered to be overdue on registering as a violent offender during a traffic stop in Oak Lawn, prosecutors said.

OAK LAWN, IL —Police found that a commercial truck driver was non-compliant with his violent offender state registration during a traffic stop, prosecutors said. Donval Thomas, 44, of Chicago, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charge of failure to register as a violent offender.
The prosecutor said that Thomas was pulled over Nov. 4 when police saw him driving a semi-tractor trailer down Southwest Highway in Oak Lawn. Trucks over ten tons are prohibited from using that particular road. Officers discovered that Thomas was overdue registering as a violent offender, according to the complaint.
Thomas was convicted of first-degree murder n 1998, and served 17 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, the prosecutor said. He is required to register annually on the Illinois Murderer And Violent Offender Against Youth registry for the rest of his life. The prosecutor said Thomas missed his registration date on Jan. 19, but failed to do so.
