The Oak Lawn man appeared before Cook County Judge James Brown Saturday afternoon at 26th and California, wearing black-flowered, knee length shorts, a white t-shirt and flipflops.
According to the charges, an Oak Lawn tactical detective observed Vorberg parking behind the Papoose Children’s Center, 5354 W. 95th St., around 2:20 p.m. Thursday. Police set up a surveillance team and watched as Vorberg applied lotion to his hands.
Police said Vorberg was facing the playground area behind the children’s center while children and adults were present. He was observed moving his arm and hand in an up-and-down motion for three minutes consistent with masturbation before being taken into custody.
A women’s health magazine was also found in Vorberg’s vehicle. Vorberg denied he had been masturbating, telling officers he was applying medicated lotion to an injury he suffered at work, prosecutors said.
The public defender asked Judge Brown for an I-bond because Vorberg had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for next week.
Judge Brown set bail for the public indecency charged at $150,000, with 10 percent to apply. Vorberg is being held on a no-bond parole violation warrant at Cook County Jail.
Vorberg is due back in court on June 23 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said in an email blast to his constituents that he planned to attend the hearing to show support for the prosecutors.
Vorberg was handed a three-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections for public indecency when two parents in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood spotted him exposing himself near Cassell Elementary School in April 2013.
