Water Main Construction To Start At Central Avenue And Southwest Hwy
Starting the week of Sept. 19, motorists should expect delays due to lane closures at Central Avenue and Southwest Highway through November.

OAK LAWN, IL — Starting the week of Sept 19, water main construction will begin at Central Avenue and Southwest Highway. Motorists should expect delays due to lane closures at the intersection. The project is tentatively scheduled to end Nov. 20.
Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic control measures in place during construction include:
- One lane of traffic in each direction
- Temporary lane closures may be required with flaggers
- Crosswalks will remain open
- There will be no left turns to and from Southwest Highway
- Side streets and alleys may be closed for a maximum of three days
Starting in October, within Central Avenue, there will be one lane of traffic in each direction between 92nd Street and 94th Street. Other turning restrictions may also be in place.

Lane closures are being coordinated with the Oak Lawn police and fire departments. The project is being coordinated with St. Gerald Church, which is located at the intersection.
Notices will be posted prior to driveway closures, with road and alley closures to be coordinated with the village to avoid disrupting trash pickup. Engineers will be onsite during construction.

The Oak Lawn Regional Water System also has planned water main installation projects at Cicero Avenue and Southwest Highway, and 95th Street and Southwest Highway.
