Native plants, Frank Lloyd Wright homes, and one very educational “follow the flush” adventure.

This weekend in the Chicago suburbs has a little something for everyone: garden people, architecture lovers, curious kids, and anyone who enjoys saying, “Well, that was unexpectedly interesting.”

With warm weather and a chance of storms in the mix, Saturday looks like the day to get out early, enjoy a local event, and then leave yourself some cozy indoor time later.

Shop the DuPage Native Plant Sale in Wheaton

If your yard is begging for more pollinators, texture, and “I swear I’m becoming a better person through gardening” energy, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Native Plant Sale is a great Saturday stop.

The sale runs Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the DuPage Event Center and Fairgrounds, Gate S3, 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton. Shoppers can browse more than 170 types of native flowers, grasses, shrubs, and trees, with plant experts on hand to offer tips and recommendations. Admission is free, and the sale is rain or shine.

Tour private Frank Lloyd Wright-era homes in Oak Park

For architecture fans, Oak Park is the place to be this weekend. Wright Plus Architectural Housewalk returns Saturday, May 16, offering interior tours of private residences designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and his contemporaries.

This is one of those classic Oak Park events that reminds you why people fall hard for the near west suburbs: beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, historic details, and that “oh no, now I’m emotionally attached to leaded glass” feeling.

Take the kids to the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant Open House

For something a little different, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is hosting an open house at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant in Cicero on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the last tour beginning at 2 p.m. Visitors can learn how wastewater is transformed and returned to the environment as clean water.

Is it glamorous? Not exactly. Is it the kind of behind-the-scenes infrastructure tour that curious kids and grownups may find weirdly fascinating? Absolutely.

And if the storms roll in...

Once the skies get dramatic, that is your permission slip to head home, get cozy, and do a little indoor daydreaming.

Browse homes, save favorites, or just peek at what’s happening in Oak Park, River Forest, Elmwood Park, Chicago, and the surrounding suburbs at OPRFhomesforsale.com.

No pressure. Just a comfy couch, stormy skies, and a little real estate scrolling.

P.S. If your weekend browsing turns into “wait, could we actually move?” I’m always happy to help you sort through the what-ifs. I’m Laurie Christofano with RE/MAX In The Village, and I help buyers and sellers throughout Oak Park, River Forest, Elmwood Park, Chicago, and the near west suburbs make smart, clear-headed real estate decisions without the pressure-cooker energy. Whether you’re relocating, upsizing, downsizing, or just trying to understand what’s possible, I’m here for the strategy, the local context, and the occasional lovingly delivered reality check.
