Architecture camps provide real-world design experience

7th-to-12th-graders experiment with design in Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural laboratory during two Summer Design Camps.

Join others in the drafting room of the Oak Park Studio, where Wright pioneered a bold new vision for American architecture and design.

With guidance by a professional architect, In Wright’s Studio: Summer Design Camps give students entering grades 7 through 12 the opportunity to practice design, drawing and model-building in the drafting room of Frank Lloyd Wright's Oak Park Studio, 951 Chicago Ave., Oak Park, Ill.

In Wright’s Studio: Architecture Design and Build, 8:30-11:30 a.m., Monday, July 11 to Friday, July 15 OR Monday, July 25 to Thursday, July 29. It was at his Oak Park Studio that Wright developed his visionary Prairie style. Inspired by the broad, flat landscape of America’s Midwest, the Prairie style was the first uniquely American architectural style. In this week-long camp, participants engage in the design process and create building models that offer innovative solutions for modern living. Cost is $250 per student.

In Wright’s Studio: Designing for Beauty and Utility, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, July 18 to Friday, July 22, or Monday, August 1 to Friday, August 5. In Wright’s organic architecture, every aspect of the design was connected—site and structure, interior and exterior, furniture, ornament and architecture. In this week-long camp, participants explore Wright’s designs for furnishings, lighting, art glass and decorative objects, then design and make models of original creations. Cost is $250 per student.

Registration closes Friday, June 10. Learn more about the summer programs at flwright.org.
