Berwyn Drug Dealer Gets 20 Years, Is Still At Large: Cops

Police say Jose Morales has been missing since he apparently removed a GPS monitoring bracelet.

BERWYN, IL --- A Berwyn man has been sentenced in absentia for being caught selling heroin in DuPage County in 2015. Police first arrested Jose Morales, 25, Sept. 2015 after he was caught selling heroin and in possession of a 9mm handgun. Police say Morales was released on bond and let out of jail with an electronic monitoring bracelet that he later tampered with in order to escape.

In March of 2017, police were alerted that someone had tampered with Morales's GPS bracelet. Authorities say part of the bracelet was later found in Elmhurst near the intersection of Route 83 and Roosevelt Road. As a result of this incident, police issued a no-bond warrant for Morales, but he still has not been taken into custody.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin had some cautionary words after the sentencing. He said, "Mr. Morales may believe that he has avoided responsibility for dealing drugs in DuPage County. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am confident that Mr. Morales will be caught and when he is, he will have a twenty-year sentence behind bars waiting for him
