Bake, then Taste and Discuss at ‘Food for Thought’ on September 9
Our "Food for Thought" cookbook discussion group focuses next on Baked and Baked Explorations by Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito. Bring a recipe from either book to share.

Love baking desserts? Always discovering new recipes to try? Too many recipes in the “to try” pile? The quarterly “Food for Thought” cookbook discussion group at Oak Park Public Library is just the thing. This season, delve into Baked and Baked Explorations, two cookbooks by Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito, owners of the popular Baked bakery in Brooklyn. Make and bring your favorite recipe from either book to share at a discussion and tasting on Sunday, September 9 at 2 pm at the Main Library, 834 Lake Street. You’ll be able to taste the recipes that others have made, and share your tips and experiences. Copies of both books are available at the Main Library. Bakers of all ages are welcome.
With the crisp Fall weather approaching, now’s the perfect time to explore desserts with the “Food for Thought” cookbook discussion group. Over coffee and sweets like heartland turtle bars, no-bake peanut butter cookies, and caramel apple cake participants will share impressions of Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito’s cookbooks and their experiences following a recipe. Learn where fellow bakers source some hard to find ingredients and how they worked through difficult steps in the recipe they chose.
Oak Park Public Library’s cookbook collection ranges from the homey to the haute—featuring titles from Paula Deen and the Pioneer Woman to Pierre Hermé’s Pastries and Nathan Myhrvold’s six-volume Modernist Cuisine. Browse thousands of titles in our catalog at http://oppl.org or ask at the library for a suggestion. It’s easy to check out and take home more recipes than can easily be read, let alone tested.
