Concordia University Chicago - ACT Theatre Presents Cabaret
The Artists of Concordia Theatre presents the award-winning musical "Cabaret" April 11-21, at Madison Street Theatre in Oak Park, IL.

The Artists of Concordia Theatre presents the award-winning musical “Cabaret” April 11-21, at Madison Street Theatre, 1010 W. Madison Street, Oak Park, IL. The production is directed by guest artist Rachel Edwards Harvith.
Immediately acclaimed as one of the greatest musicals of all time after its 1966 opening on Broadway, “Cabaret” was nominated for 11 Tony awards and won eight, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
Set in an expressionistic Berlin of 1929-30 as the Nazi party begins its rise to power, Cabaret presents the story of an American author seeking the perfect setting for his next novel. On a deeper level, the John Kander-Fred Ebb musical reveals a world in denial - of characters desperately trying to ignore the warning signs around them, dancing recklessly on the brink of the chasm that would become World War II.

“Cabaret” balances dark undertones with showmanship, laughter and legendary tunes such as "Willkommen," "Don't Tell Mama," and, of course, "Cabaret." Concordia's production promises to be an unforgettable embodiment of the final big party before the world began its chilling and inevitable descent into history’s most devastating and destructive war.
Performances are April 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday performances on April 14 and 21 at 2 p.m.

“Cabaret” marks the Concordia-Chicago troupe’s first performance at the Madison Street Theatre and a new approach to college theatre training. The University is in the process of negotiating a long-term partnership with Madison Street and will begin producing all of its performances at that location beginning this fall, providing students a repertory experience at the undergraduate level. “This partnership will provide both students and audiences with a storefront theatre experience that is unique to Chicago and completely unrepresented in collegiate drama programs,” said Jason Narvy, artistic director, Artists of Concordia Theatre.
