Local Producers Mentor Aspiring Musicians Onto The Stage & Into The Recording Studio

Oak Park resident, Kevin Reid has two great passions: songwriting and teaching. Reid will use his extensive experience as a private music educator (guitar, piano, bass, and drums) and a professional writer/producer to launch Rock Performance & Studio Recording, a 9-week program for up and coming musicians that ends with a live performance of several songs at a professional music venue and a recording session with producers. 

Reid’s company, Audio Tribe, has partnered with Sonic Palace recording studio owner, Matt Mercado, in this new endeavor geared towards guitar, bass, drum and keyboard players with at least one year of lessons (or equivalent skill level), and aspiring lead singers. Slots are available for two youth bands and one adult band. Singers with exceptional ability may have the opportunity to be on a professional demo that will get heard by music industry executives at publishers and major label record companies, such as the Senior Vice President of A&R (Artists & Repertoire) at Def Jam Records. 

“I bring a great deal of enthusiasm to private lessons”, says Reid, “but playing in a band is where the real excitement begins. I’m stoked to be coaching aspiring musicians in an authentic band context again and pumped that rehearsals will be held in a professional recording studio. I know firsthand how invaluable and unforgettable this experience is for students.”
