Teen Carjackers Steal Pizza Van With Toddler Inside: Cops

A pizza van with a toddler was stolen Monday evening. The offenders later left the toddler on the porch of an Oak Park home.

OAK PARK, IL — Two teens are in custody after they allegedly stole a pizza van that had a toddler inside. They fled and left the toddler on the porch of a stranger's home in Oak Park, police say. According to police, the teens stole the van in the 6500 block of W. North Ave. in Chicago, eventually crashing at the intersection of Central and Jackson.

The toddler's parents —who work as pizza delivery drivers— had stepped out of the van momentarily and the mother was waiting outside the van when two teens got into the vehicle with her toddler-age boy still inside, Chicago Tribune reports. At some point, the suspects left the toddler outside of a nearby home before continuing to flee.

Police told Chicago Tribune that the entire incident happened in less than 10 minutes. The teens crashed the pizza van and were taken into custody just before 6:30 p.m. Within that timeframe, cops tracked down the toddler and were quickly able to reunite him with his parents.
