Honoring Contributions, Building Connections
A central focus of Celebrating Seniors Week is recognizing the profound impact older adults have on their communities. Since its inception, the organization has honored hundreds of individuals for their leadership, service and ongoing contributions to community life.
That spirit of recognition continues in 2026, alongside programming designed to challenge outdated perceptions of aging and highlight the vitality, experience and value of older adults.
“Older adults are not ‘past their prime’—they are active, engaged and essential members of our community,” said Dr. Jim Flanagan, Celebrating Seniors founder.
A Community-Wide Effort
Celebrating Seniors Week is made possible through a broad coalition of partners, including local governments, nonprofits, educational institutions, businesses and volunteers. This collaborative approach ensures a wide range of programming while strengthening the network of support available to older adults across the region.
The initiative also serves a practical purpose beyond celebration. Funds raised through sponsorships and community support help provide assistance to vulnerable seniors, addressing immediate needs such as home repairs, essential appliances and other critical resources.
Open Invitation to All Generations
While the week centers on older adults, organizers emphasize that the events are intentionally inclusive.
“This is not just a seniors event—it’s a community event,” Flanagan said. “Whether you’re a caregiver, a family member, or simply someone who values connection, there is something here for you.”
That inclusive approach reflects a growing recognition that strong communities are built through relationships that span generations, with research consistently finding that social connection plays a vital role in overall health and longevity.
