Deadline For Gun Bill Veto Override Looms As Thousands Protest
The deadline to override the gun bill also falls on Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day, which brings a large rally to Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Attempts to override Governor Bruce Rauner's veto of a gun dealer licensing bill may not move forward, according to the bill's House sponsor. The bill would require gun dealers to require extensive background checks and video surveillance, along with a $1,000 fee for a five-year license. The deadline to override the veto is Wednesday.
The deadline comes on the same day the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day is taking place in Springfield, bringing with it thousands of gun advocates.
Oak Park Senator Don Harmon says he has enough votes in the Senate to override the veto, Sun-Times reports, but its prospects are slim if presented for a House vote. Harmon reportedly won't call for the override if he's not certain he can get enough votes in the House.

Rauner vetoed the gun licensing bill in mid-March, saying it "created onerous, duplicative bureaucracy that does little to improve public safety," according to a news release.
