End Of Free Parking In Oak Park? Village Eyes $1M Revenue Proposal
Officials in Oak Park are weighing a proposal that would involve eliminating free parking downtown on Sundays.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park residents may find themselves paying more for parking if the village implements a proposal to end free parking on Sundays raises other parking fees. The changes would yield more than more than $1 million in revenue, a prospect that some board members find tempting.
The proposal would put an end to free parking on Sundays and do away with the free hour of parking in the village's downtown garages, according to Wednesday Journal.

- Hiking the rate at one-hour meters to $1
- Implementing minimum charges on credit cards
- Increasing monthly permit rate to $5 per quarter for residents
Village Trustee Deno Andrews said he was on board for eliminating free parking, adding that the village "should be charging for every minute," Wednesday Journal reports. Mayor Abu-Taleb opposed ending free parking on Sundays, but suggested slowly raising the other fees to avoid giving residents and visitors sticker shock.
The board is expected to reach a final decision before the end of the year.
