Local Author Kathryn J. Atwood will share stories from her newly published book, Women Heroes of World War II. Atwood's work covers 26 courageous women involved in espionage, sabotage, resistance, and rescue during World War II. Among those she details are Noor Inayat Khan, the first female radio operator sent into occupied France who transferred crucial messages. Johtje Vos, a Dutch housewife, hid Jewish people in her home and repeatedly outsmarted the Gestapo. Law student Hannie Schaft became involved in the most dangerous resistance work—sabotage, weapons transference, and assassinations. Bring your own memories and photos of World War II on the homefront or in the military. This free program is part of the Active Agers series. Everyone is welcome.
