Avalon String Quartet Begins 10-Concert Series at Nineteenth Century Charitable Association

In a special celebration of its 120th anniversary and in honor of its 19th Century roots, the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association is presenting a special series of ten concerts by the Avalon String Quartet. The Quartet will perform the complete Beethoven String Quartet Cycle, one of the great artistic achievements of the 19th Century.
Formed in 1995, the Avalon String Quartet is recognized as one of the country's leading chamber music ensembles. Since 2007, the Avalon has been in residence at the Northern Illinois University School of Music in DeKalb. The Quartet performs in chamber music series and at festivals
throughout the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia.
All concerts will be held on Wednesday afternoons
at 3:00 pm in the auditorium of the Charitable Association's historic building at 178 Forest in Oak Park. The first concert, "Alpha and Omega," will be on October 19 and will feature Beethoven's first string quartet, Opus 18, No. 3, and his last, Opus 135. The remaining concerts will take place Nov. 9, Nov. 30, Jan. 25, Feb. 22, March 14, April 11, May 16, May 23, and May 30.
Each concert has a designated local organization to which freewill donations may be made (minimum suggested donation $10). The first concert will benefit the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association Benevolence Fund, which for 120 years has generously provided charitable service
and financial support to community non-profit organizations.
Cash refreshments will be available.
