Dominican University African American and Latino Social Work Symposium

Toni Preckwinkle, president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, will be the keynote speaker at Dominican University’s fifth annual African American and Latino Social Work Symposium on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at its Priory Campus, 7200 W. Division St., River Forest, IL.

The symposium, titled “How to Survive and Thrive in a Deepening Recession,” will bring back to Dominican the keynote guests of previous symposia to offer insights from different perspectives of social work. Scheduled guest speakers include business leader Stedman Graham, Congressman Danny Davis, priest and social activist Fr. Michael Pfleger, and Dominican University Provost Cheryl Johnson-Odim.  Anthony Ponce, NBC 5 news reporter, will moderate the discussion. Kimbriell Kelly, editor of The Chicago Reporter, will give the closing plenary.

The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The event includes the keynote and panelist discussions in the morning, provided continental breakfast, lunch and breakout sessions in the afternoon. Professional social workers may earn up to 5 Continuing Education Units for the day, at an additional cost.  The symposium is widely attended by attendees from various professions. Registration is $40. Students may register at the reduced rate of $15.  Seating is limited. All full day attendees can enter for a chance to win an iPad 2.
