Dominican University will open its Theatre Arts Lab Series with three student performances of Gypsy on November 11, 12 and 13.
The November 11 and 12 performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. The November 13 show will be held at 3:00 p.m. All performances will be held in the Lund Auditorium on Dominican’s Main Campus, 7900 Division Street, River Forest.
Loosely based on the memoirs of burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee, the play focuses on Lee’s mother, Rose, as it follows her dreams and efforts to raise two “stage show” daughters, and exposes the dark side of show business. The play features music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Gypsy has remained popular since its debut in 1959, introducing such popular Broadway standards as “Let Me Entertain You,” “Together Wherever We Go,” and “Everything's Coming Up Roses” to the public.
