EXHIBIT: "Fictional Landscapes" at Dominican University’s O’Connor Art Gallery

Dominican University’s art gallery will open its 2011-2012 exhibit season with Fictional Landscapes, a two-person exhibition featuring the work of Young Cho and Amy Honchell. The exhibit will run September 21 through October 29.

Cho, an artist in residence for the textile department at Lillstreet Art Center, is known for work which re-imagines her observation of and participation in daily events. Beginning with a realistic recall of the events, her imagination morphs the images into fragmented psychological fiction. What begins as an authentic event evolves into an imaginative yet vulnerable tale of social experiences complete with tactile and sculptural characters.

The drawn and sculpted landscapes of Honchell, associate dean for academic affairs for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, are inspired by hidden boundaries such as topography, weather patterns and bodily systems. Her site-specific installations are designed to allow viewers to explore the sense of touch in a visual way.
