The 2011 Illinois Storytelling Festival will be held on Saturday, September 24 at Dominican University. The afternoon event will kick off with a performance for all ages at 1:30 p.m., followed by a free open mic session and concurrent workshop, "Finding the Music in Our Stories," presented by In The Spirit at 3:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. will be a special performance for adults.
In The Spirit, the two-person storytelling team of Emily Hooper Lansana and Glenda Zahra Baker, bring a unique approach to the art of storytelling, collaboratively weaving stories together with music to create memorable performances. In the workshop, participants will learn about the “In the Spirit” story development process, explore different techniques for enhancing a story with music and consider how the use of music can help the storyteller to build stronger connections with the story and the audience.
This workshop is ideal for storytellers and story lovers, for those who love music but are not musicians and for those who are musicians but still finding their way into story. The activities will be held in the Performing Arts Center. For more information about the program or to purchase tickets, visit www.storytelling.org/festival.html.
