October brings us the King of the Apes in Tarzan Escapes. The third of the MGM Tarzan series to feature Olympic swimming champ Johnny Weissmuller in the title role, this time with Maureen O’Sullivan as his Jane. She is tricked by evil hunters into abandoning her fairy tale life with Tarzan, so the Ape Man sets out to reunite with his one true love. This diverting adventure film is replete with double-crossing bad guys, unfriendly natives, elephants, capture and escape from captivity, and deadly quicksand. Directed by Richard Thorpe, the movie is based on the character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, who is a fellow Oak Parker!
