Lake Theatre’s First Tuesday Film Club Presents “We Have a Pope” A story centered on the relationship between the newly elected Pope and his therapist

Oak Park, IL – Lake Theatre’s First Tuesday Film Club is presenting its next art film – the 2011 Italian comedy-drama directed by Nanni Moretti “We Have a Pope” (NR). Slated for Tuesday, August 7th, show times are 12 PM and 7 PM. Movie admission is $6 for matinee shows/seniors and $8.50 for the evening shows. Advance tickets are available online or at the Lake Theatre box office, located at 1022 Lake Street.

Having “great heart,” says Roger Ebert, “We Have a Pope” tells the story of Melville (played by the French actor Michael Piccoli), a cardinal who suddenly finds himself elected as the next Pope. Never the front runner and completely caught off guard, he panics as he's presented to the faithful in St. Peter's Square. To prevent a worldwide crisis, the Vatican's spokesman calls in an unlikely psychiatrist who is neither religious nor all that committed, played by Director Nanni Moretti, to find out what is wrong with the new Pope. As the world nervously waits outside, inside the therapist tries to find a solution. But Cardinal Melville is adamant: he does not want the job, or at least needs time to think it over. What follows is a marvelous insight into the concept of a human being existing behind the title of God's representative on Earth. The film’s original title is “Habemus Papam,” the Latin phrase used upon the announcement of a new pope.
