Monday Night Concert Series presents 'The Boys from Indiana'

The Monday Night Concert Series continues with singers Anjali Asokan Karia and Howard McClaine at 7 p.m. Monday, October 17, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. Jeremy Kahn will accompany the singing duo on piano.
 
‘The Boys from Indiana’ is a tribute to legendary American musicians and Indiana natives Hoagie Carmichael and Cole Porter. They will be playing Carmichael’s “Up a Lazy River” and Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “Miss Otis Regrets” among other classics.
 
Hoagland Howard Carmichael is an iconic American composer, pianist, singer, actor, and bandleader whose career saw major fame from the 1930s to the 60s. He is best known for writing "Stardust", "Georgia On My Mind", "The Nearness of You", and "Heart and Soul", four of the most-recorded American songs of all time. Carmichael’s songs have echoed from the lips of Sidney Arodin, Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, Ray Charles, and Bing Crosby.
 
Cole Porter was a prolific American composer and songwriter during the 1920s and 30s. Studying classical music Porter was gravitated to musical theatre. By the 1930s he was considered a major composer on the Broadway spectrum. His most successful musical hit is Kiss Me, Kate while his other musical achievements include Fifty Million Frenchmen, DuBarry Was a Lady, Anything Goes and Can-Can, and his numerous hit songs include "Night and Day", "I Get a Kick out of You", "Well, Did You Evah!" and "I've Got You Under My Skin".
 
The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
