Radio Show presents 'Miracle on 34th Street'

The Oak Park Arms Retirement Community presents the radio reenactment group Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear who will present the radio play “Miracle on 34th Street” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The entire family will enjoy this holiday classic that tries to prove there is a Santa Claus.

Lux Radio Theaterpresented “Miracle on 34th Street” three times - in 1947, 1948, and 1954. All three broadcasts featured Maureen O'Hara, John Payne, and Edmund Gwenn.

Lux Radio Theater ran on the NBC Blue Network from 1934 to 1935, CBS from 1935-1954, and NBC from 1954-1955. The show, which adapted plays and Hollywood films for the radio, became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio. Many leading stage and screen stars, including Agnes Moorehead, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Joan Crawford, and Orsen Welles, appeared in Lux Radio Theater productions - often in roles they originated on stage or screen.

Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear is a radio troupe comprised of professional actors and voice-over artists and has been providing top-notch entertainment at the Oak Park Arms for a decade.

To celebrate its tenth anniversary season, Those Thrilling Days of Yesteryear is partnering with local not-for-profits, one per show. “Miracle on 34th Street” will raise funds for the Oak Park children’s museum Wonder Works.

Wonder Works provides a hands-on environment, which promotes creativity, exploration and learning through play, intended to strengthen the social, emotional and intellectual development of children up to age 10. The 6,400 square foot museum, located at 6445 West North Avenue in Oak Park, includes exhibits, educational programming, a retail store and a children's party room. The museum is open Wednesday thru Saturday from 10am to 5 pm and Sunday noon to 5 pm. For more information about field trips, birthday parties and after-hours parties call 708.383.4815.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
