Reception for "Art Attack" Teen Mural Artists

A public reception for the artistic teens who painted a mural for the Oak Park Public Library will be held on Sunday, September 18 from 3 pm to 5 pm in the teen area of the Main Library, 834 Lake Street. The colorful mural includes a cityscape leading to a more rural area. The reception and refreshments are free and open to the public.

The participating teen artists were Sadie Coffman, Christina DeVine, Karina Donayre, Oleksandra Kouznetsova, Rucha Mehendale, Lanie Nowak, Subin Park, Tyler Riordan, Katherine Sang and Nicole Smart.

Meeting over an 8-week period this past summer, the teens began by creating collage artwork to get ideas for the mural. They were assisted by intern Simon Gallo, a 2007 graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School as well as a graduate of the School of the Art Institute. Michele Paladines, a newly degreed librarian as well as an artist, and Jennifer Czajka of the Adult and Teen Services Department served as co-leaders from the Library staff.
