Exclusive

I recently toured the Carl Sandburg home in the Carolina's and watched a video interview that was done with him in the 70's. He was asked which word he thought was the ugliest word in the English language and his answer was "exclusive". His reasoning was that exclusive isolated and excluded people from interacting with one another, and, Carl Sandburg was very much about "the people" and the connections that people make - connections and interactions that created progress and diversity in the world.

I think he had a point... I would also add ignorance as an ugly word, and, ignorance is bliss as an ugly phrase. Ignorance leads to all things bad -- lack of education, lack of tolerance, lack of empathy, lack of understanding, lack of engagement, etc.
