Man Charged In 'Horrific Accident' That Killed Cicero Mother
Police say Jose Zamago-Gaugin was speeding at 85 mph and had a BAC of twice the legal limit when he allegedly hit and killed Mayra Rivera.

BERWYN, IL — Police called the accident that killed Mayra Rivera "horrific" after charging a man with reckless homicide in connection with the crash. Jose Zamago-Gaugin is accused of speeding at 85 mph before he hit Rivera's car head-on in the 6300 block of Ogden Ave in Berwyn Tuesday.
The accident took place just before 3 a.m. as Rivera, a single mother, was heading to work. Zamago-Gaugin allegedly veered left of center and struck Rivera's car. Police say both vehicles "had an extreme amount of damage" and River had to be extricated from her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Police say Zamago-Gaugin's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit at the time of the crash. A 20-year-old female passenger in his car told police she pleaded with him to slow down and tried to exit the vehicle and call for help. Zamago-Gaugin allegedly threw her phone on the floor to prevent her from calling.
A GoFundMe has been by Rivera's family to help with funeral costs and to benefit her six-year-old son.
