Man Wearing Makeshift Rain Poncho Steals Umbrellas From Dollar Tree: Oak Park Crime Blotter

Oak Park Police received reports of multiple bike thefts, a stolen Uno set, and more.

OAK PARK, IL — The following items were taken from the Oak Park Police Blotter for Oct. 10 and 11.

Retail Theft

At approximately 6 p.m., employees at Dollar Tree in the 900 block of Madison saw a man remove a black umbrella and two rain ponchos from the store. At the time of the incident, the man was wearing black pants and a disposable bag with green writing as a makeshift rain poncho. He is described as a black male between 35 and 40 years old and approximately 6' or 6'2" tall.

Oct. 7 - Oct. 10

Suspect(s) opened an unlocked window and removed a screen window to enter an apartment that was under reservation in the 100 block of S. Maple. Once inside, they removed a black and blue Makita stereo and a black and blue Makita tool set that contained a hammer drill and an impact drill. The total loss is estimated at $480.

Oct. 8 - Oct. 9

According to police unknown person(s) entered a garage in the 800 block of N. Lombard some time between 10 p.m. Oct. 8 and 5 a.m. Oct. 9. The owner reported that a Fuji Crosstown 2.3, a woman's teal Schwinn hybrid bicycle, a men's copper SE bicycle and three Kyrptonite bicycle locks were stolen. The estimated total loss is $1,229.

Bike Theft

Oct. 7 - Oct. 9

A Berwyn resident reported that their black Schwinn mountain bicycle was stolen from a bike rack in the 900 block of S. Oak Park Ave. The thief allegedly removed two cable locks that had secured the bike to the rack. The incident took place some time between 5 p.m. on Oct. 7 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 9.

Oct. 10

Unknown offender(s) broke a cable lock to remove a gray 26-inch mountain bike from a bike rack in the 1100 block of Lake. The incident took place between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The estimated loss is $200.

Oct. 10 - Oct. 11

A Schwinn Regent Bike was stolen in the 1000 block of North Blvd. between 3:50 p.m. and 12:33 a.m. The thief allegedly broke through a rope lock to gain access to the bike. The loss is estimated at $319.

Oct. 10

An unknown suspect used a cutting tool to defeat a bike lock and remove a men's black matte Loft 1 fixed-gear bicycle from a bike rack in the 400 block of Lake. The theft reportedly took place some time between 7:50 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. Police say the loss is estimated at $369.99.

Theft

Oct. 3

According to police, someone took a package containing an Uno card set and a Conair hair dryer from a porch in the 500 block of S. Harvey. The theft took place between 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The loss is estimated to be $24.34.

Oct. 10

A business owner in the 100 block of S. Oak Park Ave. reported that a suspect entered their business through an unlocked door used for mail deliveries and removed a black Android phone estimated at a $200 value. The suspect was described as a black male between 30 and 40 years old with a large build. At the time of the incident he was seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with red lettering on the front.
