Man Wields Garden Shears During Home Invasion: Oak Park Police
Police say Jeffrey Swanigan, 33, of Kankakee, threatened the homeowners with garden shears when he was confronted.
OAK PARK, IL — A Kankakee man has been arrested after he was allegedly caught brandishing a pair of garden shears in the basement of an Oak Park home. Police charged Jeffrey Swanigan, 33, with home invasion in connection to the incident, which took place Friday in the 500 block of N. Humphrey.
According to police, Swanigan somehow gained entry to the home before the homeowner came downstairs and discovered him in the basement. Swanigan was allegedly stealing items from the home when he was discovered.
When the victim confronted Swanigan, he allegedly "raised a pair of garden shears and made threats to the victim."

Police say they arrived to the scene just before 2:30 p.m. and took Swanigan into custody.
