Oak Park and River Forest Station Riders Will See Delays on Union Pacific Line Trains

A construction schedule shows 10 to 15 minute delays for certain weekday and weekend trains along the UP-W line.

Metra riders on the Union Pacific West line can expect construction delays beginning Sept. 15, according to a Metra announcement.

About 13 miles of inbound train track will be replaced between West Chicago and Elburn. The existing track is more than 30 years old, according to Metra, and this project will update the track for passengers from Elburn, La Fox and Geneva.

Passengers along all stops on the UP-W line (including River Forest, Oak Park, Elmhurst, Geneva, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn) may see delays of 10 to 15 minutes during certain periods of weekdays and weekends while construction takes place. Trains running during peak construction times may see longer delays.


According to the UP-W construction schedule,

  • Weekday Elburn to Chicago trains that usually leave Elburn from 8:05 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. may have delays up to 10 minutes.
  • Weekday Chicago to Elburn trains that usually leave Chicago from 7:40 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. may have delays up to 10 minutes.
  • Saturday Elburn to Chicago trains that usually leave Elburn from 7:25 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. may have delays up to 15 minutes.
  • Saturday Chicago to Elburn trains that usually leave Chicago from 8:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. may have delays up to 15 minutes
  • Sunday and holiday Elburn to Chicago trains that usually leave Elburn from 8:25 a.m. to 4:25 p.m. may have delays up to 15 minutes
  • Sunday and holiday Chicago to Elburn trains that usually leave Chicago from 8:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. may have delays up to 15 minutes

UP-W Metra riders should use the weekday construction schedule from Sept. 15 to Oct. 17 and the weekend construction schedule from Sept. 20 to Oct. 19.
