Oak Park Teen Dies After Jumping Onto I-290 From Bridge

OAK PARK, IL — A teenage girl from Oak Park died Saturday after she leapt off a bridge and onto I-290. The 15-year-old was fatally hit by a car heading westbound on the interstate, according to police.

Just after midnight, Oak Park Police responded to a report of a girl who had climbed a barrier fence on an East Avenue bridge, according to NBC 5. Officers arrived to find the teen on a bridge just above westbound traffic on I-290. Police were unable to stop her from letting go and falling onto the highway.

Not long after the incident, a woman reported that she had hit a girl on the highway. The teen was pronounced dead on arrival at Maywood's Loyola Medical Center.

According to an autopsy, the 15-year-old's death was caused by multiple injuries and has been ruled as a suicide.
