Police Seek Owners of Stolen Property Recovered from West Side Fencing Operation

Hundreds of stolen items will be on display at CPD's 15th District police station Friday and Saturday.

Chicago, IL -- If you’ve had property stolen from your home, business or garage, the Chicago Police Department will be opening the property room at the 15th District station to allow burglary victims the chance to view and reclaim their stuff.

CPD executed a search warrant on June 30, targeting a home in the 5600 block of West Augusta that has been known for selling stolen items for the past ten years. Officers working undercover were able to corroborate the neighborhood rumors, police said.

Jerome Brown, 53, who lives at the address, was charged with one count of felony theft and possession of stolen property. Police found a large-scale trafficking operation at the home, including a large stash of bicycles, snow blowers, landscaping equipment, chainsaws, ladders, construction grade equipment power tools and tool boxes, CPD said in news release.

People who’ve had property stolen are invited to view the recovered items Friday through 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at CPD’s15th District station, 5701 W. Madison Ave., Chicago.

Police say most of the items originated from the Cook County area. Property owners attending the viewing should bring ID, proof of purchase, a copy of the police report, insurance report or any other evidence related to their loss (video, pictures, witnesses, etc.) to establish ownership. Detectives will be on hand to assist victims in recovering their belongings.
