Rapper Bump J Released from Prison Eight Years After Oak Park Robbery Conviction

Terrance "Bump J" Boykin, who has collaborated with Kanye West and Rick James, was released from a federal penitentiary today.

OAK PARK, IL — Rapper Bump J has reportedly been released from a federal prison after serving 8 years for an armed robbery in Oak Park that took place in 2007. Before his arrest, Bump J collaborated with the lateRick James and Kanye West, who also helped him pay for his lawyer fees during his incarceration, according to multiple reports

Terence "Bump J" Boykin was arrested in downstate Illinois in November 2008 during a routine traffic stop. Police had been on the hunt for Boykin since he and an associate robbed the Chase Bank at 800 W. Madison St. at gunpoint in January of 2007. The men took more than $100,000. In 2009, Boykin was sentenced to a minimum of 7 years at FCI Elkton in Lisbon, Ohio, as part of a plea agreement.

Today, Bump J makes his way back home to Chicago, where he has remained an integral part of the hip hop scene. Before Bump J's release from federal prison, he told XXL Mag, “I’ve gotten better musically because I’m just a better man, mentally. So, I think hip-hop will love me just the same, if not more."

In 2015, rap artist Lil Durk released a freestyle track Boykin sent him while in prison called "Words from Bump J."
