River Forest Township Recognizes Three Eagle Scout Recipients

Boys' spirit of volunteerism and strong leadership skills are a great model for all residents, according to Township Supervisor Carla Sloan.

River Forest Township honored three new Eagle Scouts from Troop 66 at a recent Board of Trustees meeting.

Youth services are a main focus of the Township, which recognized the accomplishments of the Scouts and their parents, all of whom are River Forest residents.

“At the heart of the township is service to our community, from youth to seniors as well as to those in need of mental health services,” Sloan said. We are inspired by what our young people are doing to carry on this vital work.”

The three Eagle Scouts who were honored on Sept. 16th at River Forest Township, 8020 Madison, are Riley Conrardy, a junior at Oak Park-River Forest High School (parents: Bob Conrardy and Diane Dygert); Anthony Brennan, a senior at St. Ignatius High School (parents: Paul and Sandy Brennan); and Jimmy McAllister, a senior at Fenwick High School (parents: Paul and Sherry McAllister).

Each of the honorees gave a brief presentation of his project that resulted in attaining the Eagle Scout level. Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting.

To earn the rank, a Boy Scout must progress through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life. Other criteria include serving six months in a troop leadership position; planning, developing and giving leadership to a service project for any religious organization or any school or community; taking part in a Scoutmaster conference, and successfully completing an Eagle Scout board of review.

In 2013, about 7 percent of all Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank.

Along with its assessor’s office, the township’s focus is working with agencies that serve youths, seniors and those seeking mental health services in a variety of programs.
